The future is bright for Eagles, Wentz
Tony Boselli was asked on Thursday night football who is the best young quarterback in the National Football League now. Boselli, a former NFL offensive lineman, mentioned Dak Prescott, of Dallas, Marcus Mariotta, of Tennessee, Derek Carr, of Oakland and Jameis Winston, of Tampa Bay.
He said they were all good, young quarterbacks, but Boselli saved the best for last because he then said Carson Wentz, the Eagles’ second-year quarterback, is the best of the group. He cited Wentz’ leadership and poise in the quarterback as the reasons. But in the case of Wentz, there are also many intangibles for his being a quarterback with a bright future and for the Eagles having a bright future with him as their quarterback.
Wentz is an outstanding listener. He listens to his head coach, Doug Pedersen, to his offensive coordinator, Frank Reich and his quarterbacks coach, Dave DeFilippo. He takes it all in and processes it and then when the time is right he puts to use what he’s been told. But he doesn’t listen to only his coaches. He listens to his teammates in the huddle and on the sidelines when the offense is not on the field. He takes what they say under advisement and determines how relevant and important it is.
The next five to ten years aren’t going to be rosy all the time because Carson Wentz is going to be the quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. There will be plenty of trips and mistakes, interceptions thrown at the worst possible times and fumbles lost when you wanted only the clock to run out. But Wentz will see this team through all its trials and tribulations as it competes for playoff aspirations in the NFL.
