Eagles aim to get back on track
The Eagles’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs was a tough loss for sure, but it wasn’t heart-breaking. They didn’t lead the entire game only to lose on a last-second field goal. In my more than 50 years of watching Eagles’ football, that is something they have done. But this time they hung in there against a team well into the fourth quarter that is expected to make the playoffs in the AFC. Add in the fact quarterback Carson Wentz showed remarkable resiliency and toughness and there is nothing to be ashamed about if you root for the Eagles.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t concerns with the team. There are concerns, a lack of a running game being the main one. But the teams that don’t have concerns are few and far between. The job of coach Doug Pedersen and his staff is to address those concerns as the 2017 season continues. The Chiefs were coming off an opening-game 42-27 win over New England in which they scored the final 21 points.
For the Eagles (1-1) to win would’ve taken a near-perfect game played by them. This was a game they could’ve won, but not a game they should’ve won. The Chiefs were a little better and the Eagles almost pulled it out on the game’s final play when Wentz threw a last-second pass into the end zone, but it fell incomplete.
Getting back in the win column is the next assignment on the team’s agenda. This is highly probable considering their next opponent are the New York Giants who visit Lincoln Financial Field Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Giants (0-2) are looking for their first win of the season after losing to Dallas 19-3 and Detroit 24-10. They didn’t seriously contend in either loss and are a team in a state of flux. It is important the Eagles realize keeping their poise and composure is so important against a team that is looking for its first win of the season. A team must always realize the importance of remaining confident and secure in knowing that in working with their coaches they can defeat an opponent.
But the Giants are looking for anything now to feel good about. A fumble recovery here or an interception there by the Giants shouldn’t be the turning point in a game like this. The Eagles are the better team and there’s no reason why they won’t play like it. I might be going out on a limb by picking the Eagles but I’m confident they won’t let me down. I’m going with the Eagles 23-10. Let’s go Eagles!!!Fight!!! Fight!!! Fight!!!
