chiefs await the eagles
The Kansas City Chiefs are anticipating the arrival of the Philadelphia Eagles for a game scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. Both teams began their season with impressive wins. The Chiefs steamrolled over the New England Patriots by scoring the final 21 points in a 42-27 win in Foxboro Thursday night. The Eagles’ game wasn’t decided until the final minutes when defensive lineman Fletcher Cox scooped up a fumble and rumbled in some 20 yards for a touchdown as :they won 30-17 over the Washington Redskins Sunday.
The game will be a much stiffer test for the Eagles defense. They throttled the Redskins offense for most of the game and gave up only one touchdown. The other Redskins’ touchdown was scored on a pick-six that occurred when a pass thrown by quarterback Carson Wentz was deflected and intercepted by a defensive back. This game will also be a much stiffer test for Wentz. He completed 67% of his passes for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. and one interception. But the real test will come in the form of how he handles blitzes that seem to come at him from every angle imaginable and if he’s able to avoid being tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a huge loss.
The Redskins weren’t able to do that when Wentz connected with wide receiver Nelson Algholor on a 58-yard touchdown bomb that staked the Eagles to a 7-0 lead early in the game. His ability to escape tacklers and stretch out plays make a few people think of Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers. But before he’s put in the Rodgers’ stratosphere that needs to be done on a regular basis. The Chiefs have an extra incentive going for them: their head coach used to be the Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid. That could be enough incentive to make this a Chiefs’ win although it won’t be a rout: 24-17 will be the final with the Chiefs hanging on as Carson Wentz attempts to pull it out.
